- I've been having some trouble logging in onto my server with Trumpet
- Winsock. In the text file that accompanies the zip, the author says that
- I need to use an external dialer if I don't want to 8bits. I am confused
- by this, what does he mean by an external dialer? My existing comm
- software? My telephone? And how would I go about doing this?

- An external dialer I just a program that dials the correct number and leaves
- the connection open for some other comm software to grab. The built in
- dialer only works with 8bits, so if you need a different comms setup you
- will need to use an external dialer.
-
- There is a good external dialer available from
-
- ftp.demon.co.uk called dialexe.zip
- in the /pub/ibmpc/winsock/apps/dialer
-
- Hope this helps

- Version 2.0 of TCP3270 for Windows is now available This version
- contains a large number of enhancements, most notably: EHLLAPI, Visual
- Basic interface, definable toolbar and poppad type ahead, printing
- support, and NVT terminal support.
-
- Also, TCP3270 for Windows NT, a full 32-bit application, is now
- supported on Intel, MIPS, and DEC Alpha platforms.
-
- *************************************************************************
- *************************** Product Overview ****************************

- anywhere on your desktop
-
- * Definable Microsoft style toolbar
-
- * Definable Poppad

-
- * Full Entry Assist (or Document Assist) for fast text entry
- (wordwrap, columnar tabbing, end of line signal ...)
-
- * Support for EHLLAPI, programatic interface to TCP3270
-
- * Support for Visual Basic. Use VB to automate 3270 operations
-
- * Macro Editor to allow automation of certain repetitive keystrokes
-
- * Full Type Ahead implemented
-
- * NVT Terminal Type support for telnet
-
- * Support for local PCPRINT program. PCPRINT allows the user to
- print files directly to LPTX from CMS, TSO, and MUSIC. It is
- included with TCP3270.
-
- * Full control of EBCDIC/ASCII translate tables to tailor the system
- to your environment. Predefined tables provided for USEnglish,

-
- ALA Support & NOTIS & DOBIS
- ---------------------------
-
- The workstation program with VGA equipped machines under DOS
- supports the ALA character set for use with NOTIS and DOBIS host
- systems. The WS program emulates a TELEX 476L in terms of
- functionality. This means that diacritics are always displayed over
- the alphanumeric character when received from the host or entered from
- the keyboard. There are no limits to combinations of diacritics and
- alphanumeric characters. The WS program dynamically builds new
- characters as it receives the combination from the host or keyboard.
- This is done in normal text mode using the special character set
- functions of the VGA adapters.
-
- The default keyboard layout is made to resemble the IBM 3164
- terminal. (This was done since the keyboard is nearly identical and
- since the IBM terminal seems to be the most used for ALA support)
-
- As far as printer support, you can load a small TSR that is provided
- on top of TCP3270 to print a screen containing diacritics characters.
- It uses downloadable font support from the printer to create the fonts
- that exist on the screen. Currently a driver is provided for the IBM
- ProPrinter II/III, HP Laserjet II, III, and a Glass printer driver to
- print screens without ALA characters. The source to the printer
- driver is supplied so anyone can write their own driver.
-
- The Windows version supports ALA using two ALA TrueType fonts. This
- allows you to display and enter ALA characters and diacritics on any
- display system supported by Windows 3.1 and Windows NT. This support
- also provides printer support for any Windows supported printer.
- Since a TrueType font is used, the Auto Font Sizing feature of TCP3270
- for Windows also works with ALA screens.
-
-
- TCP/IP Stack Support
- --------------------
-
- The Windows 3.1 version supports Novell's LAN WorkPlace for DOS and
- the following vendors using the WinSock support: Novell's LAN
- WorkPlace for DOS, FTP Software's PC/TCP, Beame&Whiteside, Ipswitch's
- PIPER/IP, Trumpet Winsock, Distinct's TCP/IP, NetManage's Chameleon,
- Sun's PC-NFS 5.0, Lanera's TCPOpen, and TUN's TUN*Tcp.
-
- The Windows 3.1 WinSock version also works on OS/2 2.1 with IBM's
- TCP/IP v2.0 with the DOS/Windows Access Kit.
-
- The Windows NT version uses the built-in WinSock stack. There
- are processor specific versions for Intel, MIPS, and DEC Alpha
- processors.
